This seminar will review the nociceptive and biopsychosocial models of pain, with particular emphasis on psychological and sociological constructs that contribute to a patient's pain experience. Using information from neuropsychology and neurobiology, the course will explore some of the environments and cues that may inadvertently alter the pain level of the patient. Finally, strategies to identify and appropriately treat patients with signs and sympsoms of non-nociceptive pain will be discussed.
